Quantum Ventures is a boutique venture capital firm, founded by Karan Madan and Arturo Rubinstein, focused on the growth of a selected portfolio of Latin American cannabis operations including production, distribution and retail of medical cannabis with a decisive value added approach that leverages on the extensive transactional experience of its partners and its unique network in the region.
The company will initially focus on those markets where it has very clear competitive advantages. The Portfolio of assets that is being put together by Quantum are all very high quality cash generating business.



Managing Director

Alejandro has 12 years of experience trading seeds and various agricultural commodities working for FISWAY S.A. in Uruguay led by Asociacion de Cooperativas Argentinas, Argentina. Alejandro was responsible for managing all trading and execution. He is also the founder of Trade and Business working jointly with Conaprole – Cooperativa Nacional de Productores de Leche, Uruguay sourcing new clients and distributing products in Asia. Alejandro received his 3 year technical degree in Foreign Trade from ICE (Instituto de Comercio Exterior Bank) jointly run with the Bank Boston Foundation.


Co Founder, New York

Karan has 25 years of financial markets experience, primarily within Latin America and Emerging. Karan was responsible for Latin America at Nomura Securities & Barclays. Before joining Barclays, Karan was the Head of Global Markets for Latin America at Deutsche Bank, overseeing the strategic expansion of Latin America and leading to record revenues and top league table positions. Prior to his time at Deutsche Bank, Karan spent fourteen years at Merrill Lynch where his last roles were the Global Head of Local Currency Trading (2004-2008) and the Head of Latin America. Karan received an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1995, and a B.A. and B.SC. degree from Swarthmore College. Prior to earning his MBA, Karan worked at the World Bank and the United Nations. Karan lives in New York with his wife Rati and their children Arjun and Ishan.


Co Founder/Business Development & Finance/Buenos Aires

During his career Arturo has worked in different areas of the financial services industry in various parts of the world and since 2010 works as an independent financial advisor at Blue Capital and serves in the board of various companies in Argentina and Uruguay. From 2007/2009 was associated with the development and led the financing for the expansion of Island Outpost and Goldeneye in Jamaica the boutique hotel chain owned by music producer Chris Blackwell. From 2004/2007 he led the acquisition of a 700 acre private island in the Bahamas that counted with some of the better known stars of the music industry as its shareholders. Prior to the Bond’s Cay project, Arturo was Managing Director at one of the most dynamic financial advisory firms in Buenos Aires, Integra Investments. After obtaining his MBA Arturo worked for 4 years at Templeton Global Investments, where he was the Director for Latin American Business Development. He began his career at PWCO. Arturo received his M.B.A in 1995 from the University Of Chicago Graduate School Of Business, and holds a B.S. in accounting from the University of Buenos Aires. Arturo resides in Buenos Aires with his wife Virginia and their children Mia and Simon.

Julio Calzada

Senior partner/ Public policy/Uruguay

Julio is a Uruguayan sociologist that has been in the forefront of the movement towards the legalization of cannabis globally.

After a long standing career dedicated to social work and activism in Uruguay on May 2, 2011, Julio assumes the task of Secretary General of the National Drug Board of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay and participates in the process of innovation in the field of drug policies, including the coordination of the preparation of the bills that regulated the opening of the cannabis market. As part of this process he has given conferences and taught courses at research centers and universities in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Spain, USA, France, Honduras, Italy, Switzerland, and Uruguay, among others .

In October 2014, he was elected Senator of the Republic of Uruguay as a substitute for the period 2015-2020. Since July 2015 he has been Director of Social Policies of the Departmental Administration of Montevideo

Adam Miller

Head of Operations /Jamaica

Adam grew up on a farm in Jamaica’s St. Thomas Parish and wound up studying the agriculture business at Lousiana State University in the US. Adam managed organic farms at Pantrepant Farm and Potosi Farms both located in Trewlany and has first hands experience in high quality organic farming in that area. Adam lives in Jamaica but loves traveling and surfing around the world


Legal Advisor

Uriel Szarfsztejn regularly advises clients on international commercial transactions, including M&A, financing transactions, and corporate governance matters. He is a partner within the Corporate Law and Mergers & Acquisitions practices at Segal, Turner & Asociados. Mr. Szarfsztejn received his Master in Law and Economics and earned his Law Degree from Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, School of Law.


Designer, India

Arvind has 18 + years’ experience in the advertising industry as a creative director. He has been associated with leading brands like LG, Nokia, Nestle, Godfrey Phillips, Suzuki, Rekoop and more. Currently he runs a creative design botique under the name of magic mushroom. He will be providing design and communication solutions for Quantum ventures across their portfolio.
